What is an air intake manifold? |

It's the area through which intake air from the air filter passes and is distributed to the cylinders. If the engine is carbureted or has throttle body injection, this air is mixed with fuel. In a multipoint fuel injected engine, however, only air passes through the manifold. The air intake manifold is the device which distributed the air from the throttle body or carburator to the cylinder heads. The year of your vehicle and number of cylinders as well as engine orientation (straight or V) will dictate what this looks like. Generally it will be on the top of the engine. Ford V-8's and V-6's on the newer vehicles are black plastic and arch shaped. On older vehicles it will be a two piece cast iron or aluminium pieces. In most cases, this refers to the aluminum or plastic intake manifold tha tthe throttle body bolts to and is bolted to the cylinder heads that directs air from the throttlebosy to the cylinder ports in the heads. A CAI(cold air intake) refers to the tubing and filter housing for the air filter. Most of the stock units contain a silencer to muffle the moaning sound on the incoming air. These can be restricting, so many aftermarker ones have been introduced. You would want one that draws in outside air, not an open element under the hood that would draw in hot air. Cooler air makes more power. |

Abstract Beyond simply identifying shrinkage porosity and filling problems, numerical tools have been further developed to predict stresses, microstructures, defects and to model specific processes that can be used effectively by the foundry engineer early in the manufacturing process to save significant time and cost. More specifically this paper will address the following topics: •Stress and deformation - what is the final shape of the cast component? What about fatigue life of the die? Can heat transfer variation due to gap formation between the casting and the die be taken into account? Can hot tears defects be predicted? •Micro and gas porosity - what about the integrity of the part? Can porosity be compensated by graphite expansion? What about the initial gas content in the liquid? •As-cast mechanical properties-can local mechanical properties be predicted such as yield strength and hardness? |

Zhejiang Sol-Millennium Plastic Mould Co. Ltd. is the one of the earliest specialist manufacturer of disposable syringes moulds with two-parts and three-parts to successfully develop moulds for the Safety and Auto-disable syringe and the multi-functional transparent master batch. The top producer of syringe moulds within China, our company is the source for over 60% of all syringe moulds and subsidiary moulds for other related equipment (e.g. infusion set) used by manufacturers in China. We have gained a reputation among our customers for our advanced designs, high quality and competitive prices, and have had success in both the domestic and foreign markets. Since being authorized to export on October 2002, our products have been exported to countries such as Australia, the United States, Spain, Russia, Poland, India, South Korea, Egypt and the Middle East. With over twenty years in the field, our company has slowly built up a team of highly skilled professionals who possess the necessary background and experience to carry out long term projects in designing and processing moulds to completion. The company also possesses a whole range of facilities to back up our personnel’s skill and experience, such as the CNC machine centre, Mill-turning centre, Sodick low speed wire-cut EDMs, carving CNC, Mirror pulser, coordinate boring machine, coordinate milling machine, and the CMM. Our company currently holds around thirty mould patents, including various safety syringe moulds (also known as the retractable hypodermic disposable syringe), semi-hot runner moulds for syringe barrels, and the joined mould for the plunger. In the area of quality management, we prefer assembly lines with one manager regulating the entire operation, increasing the durability of the mould and allowing for an easy interchange of mould parts. Presently, the annual output of our company rates at over 300 sets. We supply Plunger mould,Gasket mould, Syringe barrel mould, Cap mouldHub mould, Insulin mould, Two-parts plunger mould, Luer-lock barrel mould with screw eject, Semi-hot runner mould, Joined plunger mould, Other Mould, Hot runner mould. |

13 Variations of the Injection-Molding Process |

Thursday, 04 October 2007 |
In its beginnings the injection-molding process was reserved for thermoplastic materials. Recently it has been shown that apart from thermoplastics also thermoset materials, elastomers and fiber-reinforced as well as thermoplastic materials charged with blowing agents can be injection molded. The difference between injection-compression molding and the normal injection-molding process is that the mold halves are not completely closed during injection. Final closing only occurs when the mold is almost filled. With this method one achieves a reduction of the resistance the injected melt has to overcome. The injection piston force can be reduced, thereby improving the flow path-wall thickness ratio. The injection-compression mold is designed with flash faces so that it is already closed when injection takes place. Molds for processing of thermosets differ from molds for thermoplastic materials in that the former require powerful heating. It has been calculated that approximately 50 to 60 W heating capacity per kg of mold volume is required. The tapered sprue should be 6mm in diameter, likewise the main runners. The secondary runners should be kept as short as possible. When constructing molds for the processing of elastomers, special attention must be paid to the design of the sprue and runners. These must he large dimensioned so that the material flowing in the mold does not become prematurely cured. Special care must be taken that all flow paths are constructed as streamlined as possible to prevent partial precuring. The processing of foamed thermoplastics has increased during the past few years. Parts are produced by the blowing-agent-charged expanding plastic melt injected at extremely high velocity and pressure. The molds require low clamping forces only and they can therefore be made of nonferrous alloys, in contrast to standard molds. Nor is surface polish required, as the surface is rough and disturbed due to the processing technology. Cavity venting is important so that the expanding’ melt can reach all parts of the mold. |
